National Seashore Closing for Tropical Storm Claudette recovery operations

GULF BREEZE, Fla. – The Florida areas of Gulf Islands National Seashore will remain closed for Tropical Storm Claudette recovery operations.

Closed areas include the Fort Pickens Area, Santa Rosa Area, Perdido Key Area and Okaloosa Area in Florida. All campground reservations for Fort Pickens will be postponed or cancelled through Monday, June 21.

The Davis Bayou Area and campgrounds in Mississippi will be open for normal operations beginning Sunday, June 20. J. Earle Bowden Way, Highway 399 will remain open. Please be cautious of water and sand on the roadways.

Storm damage consists of a large accumulation of sand and water on roadways and in the campground throughout the Fort Pickens Area. There is also road damage and overwash on Fort Pickens Road, and sand in parking lots through out the Florida area.

Park staff will continue to assess conditions throughout the weekend and will reevaluate Florida park areas Sunday, June 20 for reopening conditions and announce updates as appropriate.
