OCEAN SPRINGS, MS- Gulf Islands National Seashore will complete damage assessments and minor debris removal in order to reopen the Davis Bayou Area for day use at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 11 under COVID-19 Adaptive Recovery Phase II operations.

The Davis Bayou Campground will reopen at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13 for visitors to enjoy. Reservations will be honored upon reopening, and the campground registration building at the entrance to the campground will be open. With public health and safety in mind, the William M. Colmer Visitor Center remains closed, under the park’s Phase II COVID-19 Adaptive Recovery Plan.

On Tuesday, October 6, the park closed all Mississippi mainland areas and islands in advance of Hurricane Delta which was anticipated to impact the Gulf Coast. Barrier islands managed by the National Park Service, including Petit Bois, West Petit Bois, Horn, and Ship islands, as well as the NPS-owned portion of Cat Island remain closed at this time. Once park crews have assessed the islands additional updates will be provided. Due to damage on Ship Island from Hurricane Sally, additional assessments and stabilization actions need to be taken before the island can resume operations.

A full list of closures and impacts can be found at www.nps.gov/guis/learn/news.htm. Park status updates will be posted online at www.nps.gov/GulfIslands, www.Facebook.com/GulfIslandsNPS, and www.Twitter.com/GulfIslandsNPS.
