Controlled Burns Planned this Week in Davis Bayou Area

Ocean Springs, Miss. - Gulf Islands National Seashore will attempt to conduct a controlled burn in the Davis Bayou Area of the national seashore tomorrow (Wednesday, February 26) through Friday, February 28. Acceptable weather conditions are expected starting tomorrow. Visitors are advised to avoid the area west of Park Road, north of Robert McGhee Road, and north of the visitor center complex.

Where:       Davis Bayou Area west of Park Road, north of Robert   McGhee Road, and north of the visitor center complex.

When:        Wednesday, February 26 through Friday, February 28

Burn operations are dependent on weather conditions, if conditions are right, burning will likely begin around 10 a.m. and end by around 4 p.m. If conditions change the operation will be cancelled. This season’s prescribed burning is funded by a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) Gulf Environmental Benefit Fund (GEBF) to Mississippi.
