Contact: Public Affairs Office, 307.739.3393 MOOSE, WY —Grand Teton National Park Structural Fire Fighters and Law Enforcement Rangers responded to a fire in the park's North District Buildings and Utilities Shop located in Colter Bay at approximately 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 24. A park employee observed water coming from beneath several doors of the building and smelled smoke as he approached the building. Further investigation revealed burned and blackened areas throughout the interior of the building. Interior water pipes broke during the incident and helped to extinguish fire.
Approximately three-quarters of the building's interior were affected, and numerous construction materials and cleaning supplies were burned. No external damage was identified, and no injuries were reported.
The National Park Service is conducting an investigation regarding the cause of the fire, with cooperation from Jackson Hole Fire/EMS.
