Potential Suicide Victim Identified at South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park

Grand Canyon, Ariz.Alejandro Bussot, 25, of Miami, FL has been identified as the potential suicide victim at Grand Canyon National Park. Body recovery teams were able to reach the victim, who was located approximately 250 feet below the rim, earlier this morning.

Yesterday at approximately 5:45 a.m. the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a call alerting officials to a potential suicide. Responding staff conducted an initial Hasty Search and could not identify a potential victim. Subsequent search by the National Park Service Helitak crew identified a body below the rim just east of Mather Point.

An investigation in the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service and the Coconino Medical Examiner. No further information is available at this time.
