Grand Canyon, AZ- The Coconino County Medical Examiner has identified the woman who died in a motor vehicle accident in Grand Canyon National Park on Friday, January 31, 2014 as Yuan Gao, 24 of China. At approximately 2:15 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2014 the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a call about a two-car motor vehicle accident on South Entrance Road, approximately 3 miles north of the park’s South Entrance Station. Ms. Gao was the passenger seated in the rear of the sedan. The driver and front seat passenger of the sedan suffered non-critical injuries and were transported to Flagstaff Medical Center. The driver and passenger of the second vehicle, a pick-up truck, were uninjured. A winter storm was producing sleet and snow prior to and during the motor vehicle accident and may have been a contributing factor to the incident. No further information is available at this time. -NPS- |
