Grand Canyon, Ariz. - Grand Canyon National Park will be replacing and relocating the underground electric cable that serves Phantom Ranch early in 2013. The project will be completed by Lake Powell Construction in coordination with Arizona Public Service and the National Park Service.

Work on this project is expected to begin on Monday, January 7. It is currently anticipated that the replacement and relocation will be completed by March, conditions permitting.

Visitors to the Phantom Ranch area should be aware that work may take place between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on any day of the week. Moderate daytime noise impacts are expected due to the construction activities and associated equipment use.

In order to assure visitor and worker safety, portions of the Bright Angel Campground will be closed throughout the project and trails in the area will be detoured around the construction. Hikers should watch for and obey signs and should be aware that delays are possible.

Every effort is being made to minimize impacts to park visitors and residents during this important infrastructure improvement.
