BAKER, NV – Great Basin National Park is planning a thinning project to reduce fuels within in the park’s Mission 66 residential housing and maintenance areas. Project goals are to increase defensible space and reduce the risk of structural damage or loss in the event of a fire. Tree cover and density will be reduced by tree removal (chainsaw thinning) and limbing of pinyon pine, juniper and mountain mahogany. Project information can be accessed through the National Park Service Planning, Environment and Public Comment (PEPC) website using the provided link (https://parkplanning.nps.gov/GRBA_housing_thin_2020). The comment period for this project closes April 18, 2020.
