BAKER, NV – Great Basin National Park is pleased to release the results of a three year study by Colorado State University, National Park Service Water Resource Division, U.S. Geological Survey, and Front Range Community College.
The objectives of this study were to 1) document riparian cottonwood forest conditions in the pipeline-dewatered reach of Snake Creek, 2) evaluate Snake Creek water availability and whether it can support a healthy riparian ecosystem, and 3) determine if dewatering has shifted the fluvial system into an unnatural and poorly functioning state.
This research was funded by the National Park Service's (NPS) Water Resources Division, Great Basin National Park, and a Focused Condition Assessment grant from the NPS’s Natural Resource Condition Assessment Program.
