BAKER, NV – Two additional tours of Lehman Caves at Great Basin National Park are proposed to begin in 2024. The park is seeking public comments on the proposed fees for these additional tours before any final decisions. In determining proposed fees, the park completed a cost comparison to similar tours offered by other cave operations. The comment period will open May 1 and close May 30, 2023.

The Gothic Palace Tour will allow visitors with limited time or mobility difficulties an opportunity to experience the first large chamber of Lehman Caves, The Gothic Palace. Here visitors can experience a wide array of cave formations found along all tour trails, including the rare shield formations found in abundance within Lehman Caves.

Up to 20 visitors will be allowed on this 30-minute tour. The proposed fees are:

  • Adults (16 & up): $8
  • Youth (5 – 15): $4
  • Infant (4 & under): Free
  • Senior & Access Card Holders: $4 (half price)

The Wild Cave Tour will allow visitors to explore Lehman Caves away from developed trails. This introductory caving experience will focus on safe caving techniques and conservation. It will be a strenuous, off-trail experience requiring crawling, bending, stooping, and climbing.

Up to 8 visitors will be allowed on this 3-hour tour. The proposed fees are:

  • Adults (16 & up): $40
  • Youth (12 – 15): $20
  • Youth (11 & under): Not Permitted
  • Senior & Access Card Holders: No Discount

All tours of Lehman Caves are ranger guided and can be reserved 30 days ahead of the tour date through www.recreation.gov

The preferred method to provide feedback is through the Planning, Environment, and Public Comment (PEPC) website: https://parkplanning.nps.gov/GRBA-AdditionalTours

You may also provide feedback using a comment form at any park visitor center or by responding to any park Facebook or Instagram post related to the proposed additional tours and fees. All comments will be reviewed and considered when making the final tour fee determination. All fees collected at Great Basin remain in the park and are primarily used for staffing visitor centers, providing cave tours, and maintaining campgrounds.
