Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Calif.—Golden Gate National Recreation Area has awarded a lease to operate the diner known as "Louis' Restaurant" to the Hontalas Brothers, whose family has operated the restaurant since 1937.

As part of the new 10-year lease awarded and signed today with the National Park Service, the Hontalas Brothers agreed to minimize its environmental impact and enhance the accessibility and safety of the operation. They have committed to include more sustainable and healthy menu items and increasing the use of local and organic ingredients in their affordable family restaurant operation.

Several improvements to the building will also be made including the installation of an accessible unisex restroom and an accessible front entrance, as well as a secondary emergency exit. With this 10-year lease the Hontalas family has indicated they intend to make several upgrades to the décor and atmosphere in the restaurant.

The lease will become effective on December 1, 2010, and the facility is expected to close for 120 days while these improvements are being made.
