The National Park Service (NPS) announced today the extension of the public review and comment period on the Draft General Management Plan/Environmental Impact Statement (Draft GMP/EIS) for Golden Gate National Recreation Area and Muir Woods National Monument through December 9, 2011. The extension will allow additional time for interested individuals and groups to respond to the National Park Service's preferred management alternative, and any other aspects of the Draft GMP/EIS.

The GMP is developed considering public input, practical knowledge, federal laws, and NPS policy, and is intended to guide management of the park over the next 20 years. The full document comes in 3 volumes, and there is a short Executive Summary in Volume 1, and a separate Summary Edition which focuses on the preferred alternative. The entire document is available on the internet at https://parkplanning.nps.gov/ggnra_gmp. Reference copies are available at libraries in San Mateo, San Francisco, and Marin Counties.

Comments can be submitted online at https://parkplanning.nps.gov/ggnra_gmp, or may be mailed to: General Superintendent, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, ATTN: Draft GMP/EIS, Building 201, Fort Mason, San Francisco, CA 94123-0022. All comments must be postmarked or transmitted no later than December 9, 2011. It will not be necessary for individuals, organizations, and agencies that have already commented to do so again.

Before including your address, phone number, e-mail address, or other personal identifying information in your comment, you should be aware that your entire comment--including your personal identifying information--may be made publicly available at any time. While you can ask us in your comment to withhold your personal identifying information from public review, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so.
