National Park Service: Special Events on Alcatraz Island

Alcatraz Island offers a unique setting for private tours and receptions. However, the Rock can be a challenging site for producing special events. Please review a few of our most basic site use conditions:

  • Private events are only permitted after daytime hours, on evenings when no public tours are scheduled. With a very few exceptions, this means that almost all private tours and special events must be scheduled for Tuesdays or Wednesdays.
  • No private events or tours are allowed during daytime hours.
  • No weddings are permitted on Alcatraz.
  • Private events on Alcatraz must be conducted in areas that are historically appropriate; for example, entertainment activities are not allowed in the main cell block areas.
