BARTLETT COVE, ALASKA – Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve will close Muir Inlet to vessel traffic during the raising and removal of a 66-foot private vessel beginning at noon on Saturday, July 9, 2022. The M/V Cats N Dawgs sank last week after it began taking on water at about 12:04 PM Friday, July 1st. All four passengers were rescued by a nearby vessel, no injuries were reported, and the Coast Guard successfully evacuated the boaters. No visible sheen from fuel or oil remains apparent as of July 7.
Salvage vessels are enroute and operations are expected to begin at the site of the sinking tomorrow, July 9, and continue into next week. The public is advised that Muir Inlet, north of Pt. Westdahl and Nunatak Cove, will be temporarily closed to all vessels not engaged in salvage operations. Please see a map of the closure area below. Mariners may call KWM20 Bartlett Cove on marine channel 12 for instructions from the National Park Service about area closure and restrictions.
The National Park Service will continue to monitor conditions in the area of the incident for signs of fuel or oil leaking from the sunken vessel before and during the salvage operation.
