GLACIER BAY, ALASKA – The National Park Service (NPS) is seeking public comments to help inform updates to the 1989 Glacier Bay National Park Wilderness Visitor Use Management Plan.

The NPS is midway through the planning process with no proposed management actions at this time. Park managers encourage the public to review a newsletter update and to provide input on alternative strategies for managing ~2.6 million-acres of designated Wilderness lands and waters in Glacier Bay National Park. The deadline for comments is January 30, 2021.

The newsletter and additional details on the Glacier Bay wilderness stewardship planning effort are located on the National Park Service Planning, Environment, and Public Comment (PEPC) website here

“We invite the public to share their ideas on stewardship strategies and management actions that will preserve Glacier Bay’s exceptional backcountry visitor experiences, resources, and values for the future,” said Park Superintendent Philip Hooge.

Comments should be submitted through PEPC website: https://parkplanning.nps.gov/projectHome.cfm?projectId=79185
However, comments will also be accepted by mail at Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve, Attn. Backcountry Management Plan, PO Box 140, Gustavus, AK 99826. Comments must be postmarked by January 30, 2021.
