BARTLETT COVE, ALASKA – The National Park Service (NPS) officials for Glacier Bay National Park have released a Frontcountry Management Plan for 30-day public review, and will hold public meetings about the plan in Hoonah, Gustavus, and Juneau. The document includes a draft planning vision and environmental assessment covering visitor experiences, services, and general operations in a planning area that encompasses 7,120 acres of scenic rainforest and coastal waters in Southeast Alaska, including Bartlett Cove.

The public can review and comment on the plan at the National Park Service Planning, Environment, and Public Comment (PEPC) website:  https://go.nps.gov/BartlettCove. Comments will be accepted through May 8, 2019, and will be considered in a final plan that should be released this summer.

“Public feedback will help the NPS ensure that Bartlett Cove is relevant to and accessible by a diversity of people, while its natural and cultural resource values remain well-preserved for future generations,” said the Park Superintendent Philip Hooge.

Park officials will conduct public meetings to present the plan and gather comments in three Southeast Alaska communities. The public meeting in Hoonah will be on April 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Hoonah City School Cafeteria. This will be followed by a meeting in Gustavus on April 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Gustavus School Multi-purpose Room, and a meeting in Juneau on May 2 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Downtown Branch of the Juneau Public Library located at 292 Marine Way.

Park officials prefer comments to be submitted through the PEPC website, but will also accept comments at the public meeting and by mail at Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve, Attn. Frontcountry Management Plan, PO Box 140, Gustavus, AK 99826.
