News Release Date: June 27, 2008 This notice is to advise campers that a bear recently obtained a small amount of food from an unoccupied tent in the Bartlett Cove Campground. On the morning of 6/27/08 a group of campers had a garbage bag pulled from their tent. The contents of the bag had been chewed by a bear. Upon investigation, the campers discovered that they had inadvertantly left a small bag of food in the garbage bag which had been consumed by the bear. In order to deter this bear from obtaining food from people again, the National Park Service reminds campers to be extremely vigilant in keeping ALL food, trash, and other scented items in the designated food caches in the campground. Campers are asked to report any food stoarage violations or bear sightings in the campground immediately to the Visitor Information Station (697-2627). This advisory will expire on July 27, 2007. |
