The road past Many Glacier Hotel at the T-intersection will be closed due to construction on the Swiftcurrent Water Distribution System and Swiftcurrent Spur Road rehabilitation. The construction area is closed to vehicles, bikes, and foot traffic. Construction began in the fall of 2024 and will continue through mid-May 2026. Many Glacier Construction Map![]() Frequently Asked QuestionsGeneral Information The Swiftcurrent area of the Many Glacier Valley is closed to all public access due to water system replacement and road rehabilitation projects. As a result of the construction, about half the usual parking in the Many Glacier Valley is unavailable.
Many Glacier access will be limited throughout 2025. Prior to July 1 and after September 21, incoming traffic will be temporarily restricted at the Many Glacier Entrance Station whenever necessary to prevent congestion at the Many Glacier Hotel parking lot. Between July 1 and September 21, 2025, there will be no personal vehicle access beyond the entrance station without a service reservation.
The only parking available in 2025 will be at the Many Glacier Hotel. Between July 1 and September 21, 2025, all parking at the Many Glacier Hotel will be reserved for visitors with lodging (including wilderness permits), horseback riding, and boating reservations.
The Many Glacier Road will be closed to hiker/biker traffic from July 1 to September 21, 2025 for public safety.
Entrance to Many Glacier will be possible without a day hiker shuttle ticket, commercial service reservation, or lodging reservation prior to July 1 and after September 21. However, because parking is extremely limited, capacity will be reached quickly, and daily temporary access restrictions are expected.
After September 21, personal vehicles will be allowed into the Many Glacier Valley. Please note, Many Glacier Road will remain closed at the T-intersection by Many Glacier Hotel. Parking will be limited to the Many Glacier Hotel parking lot. Visitors should expect traffic restrictions on incoming vehicles when parking is full. Construction will continue into May 2026.
Apikuni/Poia Trailhead parking will be open for vehicles that are eligible to drive past the Many Glacier Entrance Station (Many Glacier Hotel guests, commercial service reservation holders, wilderness permit holders starting in this location, etc.) The Many Glacier Day Hiker Shuttle will not stop at Apikuni/Poia Trailhead. Shuttle riders who want to use this trailhead will need to walk the horse trail from Many Glacier Hotel to Apikuni Trailhead (no pedestrian travel on the road).
2025 Facilities and Services Public restrooms and water will be available at the Many Glacier Hotel. Additionally, there is a vault toilet and water filling station on the east side of the hotel’s upper parking lot, near the horse concession. A vault toilet is also located at Many Glacier Day Hiker Shuttle Stop 6, one of the designated shuttle parking areas along the Many Glacier Road.
Private boating is not allowed in Many Glacier during the summer of 2025. Additionally, aquatic invasive species inspections will not be conducted in Many Glacier. Glacier Park Boat Company will provide boat tours and boat rentals from their dock outside Many Glacier Hotel.
Prior to July 1, private horse trailers will be allowed to access the Many Glacier Valley, but parking may not be available. From July 1 to September 21, no private horse trailers will be allowed in the Many Glacier Valley due to lack of parking.

Access to all trails will begin at the Many Glacier Hotel. Maps and signs will indicate detours around the construction zone. Hikers should be aware that detours add an additional 1.2 miles (one-way) to hikes in the Iceberg/Ptarmigan Valley and 1.7 miles (one-way) to hikes in the Swiftcurrent Valley.
In 2025, there will not be a location in Many Glacier to pick up wilderness permits. Limited day hike information will be available inside the Many Glacier Hotel when ranger staff are available. The closest location for wilderness permits and trip planning information, including publications, exhibits, and a park bookstore, is the St. Mary Visitor Center.
Many Glacier Day Hiker ShuttleFrom July 1, 2025 to September 21, 2025, a temporary shuttle service will transport day hikers into the Many Glacier Valley. Reservations are required to ride the shuttle. Shuttle tickets can only be purchased on Recreation.gov. The simplified map below shows the route of the Many Glacier Day Hiker Shuttle. There are nine parking areas along the route. Reservations are required to ride the shuttle. Shuttle tickets can only be purchased on Recreation.gov. The only cost associated with booking a shuttle reservation is a $2 Recreation.gov processing fee. These shuttle tickets will show up on a different page than Glacier's Timed Entry Vehicle Reservations AND ARE UNRELATED.
All Many Glacier Day Hiker Shuttle reservations are made in advance through Recreation.gov. Tickets will be available seven days in advance each morning at 8 am MDT, starting on June 24, and at 7 pm the night before entry, starting on June 30. Tickets are limited and determined by parking capacity. Tickets cannot be purchased in person at any of Glacier National Park’s visitor centers or entrance stations.
Shuttle service will operate from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm and from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm from July 1 to September 21, 2025. A reservation is required for inbound shuttle service. Shuttle tickets are timed—boarding is permitted during a one-hour window. Timed boarding windows are from:
Riders should be ready to be picked up (at a designated shuttle parking pullout) during their scheduled boarding window. *A reservation is not required for outbound shuttle service departing Many Glacier Hotel. There are nine pullouts designated for shuttle parking along the Many Glacier Road between Sherburne Dam and the Many Glacier Entrance Station. These pullouts will be signed as "Day Hiker Shuttle Parking" locations and striped for parking. Shuttles will stop at all designated parking pullouts. For the safety of pedestrians, visitors should remain at the same pullout as their vehicle. Pedestrian traffic is not allowed on the Many Glacier Road due to safety concerns. Once parked in a designated shuttle pick-up location, ticket holders will board the shuttle for 15–30-minute ride to the Many Glacier Hotel. Access to all trails will begin at Many Glacier Hotel, with maps and signs indicating detours around the construction zone. Visitors with a shuttle reservation may park in any parking area along the Many Glacier Road that is designated as a shuttle pick-up location. Signs will identify each pick-up location.
Note, shuttles will only be picking up at pullouts in the direction of travel. If a shuttle passes a pullout without stopping, passengers can be assured that the shuttle will pick them up when it passes going in the other direction. *Parking spaces cannot accommodate vehicles over 21 feet or vehicles with trailers. The shuttle drop will be outside the Many Glacier Hotel lobby. This is the only place the shuttle will stop other than the designated parking areas along the road.
Return departures from Many Glacier Hotel to shuttle parking areas are first-come, first-served, with no reservation needed. Shuttles will depart Many Glacier Hotel periodically, from approximately 7:30 am–2:00 pm and 3:00 pm–8:00 pm. The last shuttle bus departs from the Many Glacier Hotel at 8:00 pm.
No shuttle ticket is required for outbound shuttles. Keep in mind, there is no organized transportation option past Sherburne Dam, and the area has no cell service for passengers who do not have a parked car at one of the designated shuttle stops.
No overnight parking is allowed at any of the shuttle stops.
Many Glacier Day Hiker shuttle buses comply with federal accessibility standards. However, most shuttle stops do not meet these standards.
Visitors with mobility disabilities holding a Many Glacier Day Hiker Shuttle ticket can park for shuttle pick-up in one of two accessible parking spaces near the accessible restroom, located at Stop 6, on the Many Glacier Road. Alternatively, visitors with mobility disabilities who have a shuttle ticket may drive their vehicle to Many Glacier Hotel by presenting their shuttle ticket and an accessible placard or an “America the Beautiful – Access Pass” to park entrance staff. Parking availability inside Many Glacier is not guaranteed. The Many Glacier Day Hiker Shuttle is a temporary service to mitigate limited parking in 2025 and does not connect to the Going-to-the-Sun Road shuttle.
