The Glacier National Park Fee Program is looking for volunteers to assist campground hosts and park rangers in providing information, guidance, and support to campers in Apgar Campground. These individuals will greet visitors professionally and courteously and assist campers with campsite location. They will provide current, accurate park information and a summary of campground regulations to incoming campers at the entrance to Apgar Campground. These individuals will also proactively encourage compliance by informing campers about key regulations upon their entry to the campground.

Job Title: Volunteer Campground Assistant

Division: Visitor and Resource Protection
Location: Apgar Campground
Project Duration: Flexible (June-August)
Hours per Week: Minimum one day per week 5 hour commitment
Description of Duties:


HOUSING NOT PROVIDED

Requested shift: early morning, starting by 7:30
This position will require extended periods of standing and walking. It will be very fast paced with the need for good communication.

Assist campground hosts and park rangers in providing information, guidance, and support to campers in Apgar Campground.

Greet visitors professionally and courteously and assists with campground site location. Visitor complaints that cannot be resolved will be directed to a campground ranger or supervisor.

Provide current, accurate park information and a summary of campground regulations to incoming campers at the entrance to Apgar Campground. Proactively encourage compliance by informing campers about key regulations upon their entry to the campground. Assist visitors in complying with campground rules and regulations by answering questions correctly and educating visitors when compliance is lacking.

Manage traffic at the entrance to the campground and dump station loop.

Communicate directly with other campground, maintenance, and Law Enforcement staff about campground issues, conflicts, wildlife or safety concerns, and current site availability.

Assist with campground occupancy and use reports on host days off or when campground is short staffed.

Works safely and complies with GNP Safety and Health Program and is concerned with the safety of park staff and visitors.

Receive and assist in the delivery of emergency messages for visitors.

Will be required to wear the Volunteer-In-The-Parks uniform as approved for VIP’s in Glacier National Park.

Does not accept or handle fee payment transactions.

Benefits to VIP:
This will be an active, fast paced job that will assist Glacier campground operations with resource protection.
Schedule will be at least one day a week from 7:30am (at the latest) to 12:30pm.
Incumbent will get serve the public and enhance both the visitor and staff experience at Glacier National Park.

Goals/Outcome of Job:
Resource and Wildlife protection as well as improved customer service and compliance with campground regulations.
Contribute to a more cohesive and effective campground volunteer program in Glacier National Park.

Knowledge/Skills/Experience Desired:
This position will require extended periods of standing and walking. Job duties will be very fast paced with the need for good communication and some discretion.

Special Requirements:

HOUSING NOT PROVIDED
Excellent communication skills.
Good spatial and situational awareness.
Ability to manage/control heavy traffic.
