Limited Firewood Collection Permits Available By Lottery From Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument

Permits will be available by lottery to collect firewood generated from hazard fuel reduction projects within Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument.The firewood has been stacked and cut into 6 –8 foot lengths.The firewood collection will begin Monday, December 15 and lasts through Tuesday, December 30.A $10 non-refundable administrative fee will be charged for the permit to collect one cord of firewood from the Visitor Center overflow parking lot.Up to 13 permits for one cord of firewood will be issued. Only one permit per physical address will be issued.

To sign up for the lottery for a firewood permit (one entry per physical address), please email the information listed below to [e-mail] or drop off requested information at the park's Visitor Center by Thursday, December 11, at 5:00 p.m.The park's Visitor Center is located at 15807 Teller County Road 1.

Requested Information:

1) In the subject line of your email: Firewood: Last Name, then your First Name. Example: Firewood: Smith, John

2) In the body of your email: Your Name, Physical Address and Phone Number

Names selected for the lottery will be contacted by park staff by Sunday, December 14.

Lottery winners can obtain permits in person with a photo I.D. and proof of physical address at the Visitor Center at 15807 Teller County Road 1 beginning Monday, December 15, 2014. Permits will be issued from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily.Payment must be made with cash in the exact amount or a personal check. Permits must be picked up within 48 hours of notification. Unclaimed permits will be given to the next name on the list.

Wood is primarily ponderosa pine cut in 2 to 6 ft. lengths, and vary from 2 to 13 inches in diameter.
