Florissant, CO - The National Park Service and the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society are excited to offer a series of night sky events at Florissant Fossil Beds this year. An International Dark Sky Park since 2021, Florissant Fossil Beds provides an excellent setting for viewing night sky wonders including the Milky Way, galaxies, planets, comets, satellites, and much more!

This year’s offerings include night sky programs on:

  • Saturday, June 06 from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Friday, July 10 from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Friday, August 15 from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 03 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
“We are very much looking forward to sharing these experiences with our visitors this year,” said Marin Karraker, Superintendent.

The Springs Astronomical Society is one of the largest astronomy clubs in the nation and has presented night sky events at Florissant Fossil Beds since 2017.  They will provide a variety of telescopes for viewing and astronomers to learn from. Bring your own binoculars, blankets, and lawn chairs.

All night sky programs begin at the park visitor center. Park entrance fees will be collected, but there is no additional cost to attend the events. Night sky programs are wildly popular so plan to arrive early for the best parking and seating. Once the parking lot is full, no additional vehicles will be allowed to enter. All events are subject to weather. Learn more on our website at www.nps.gov/flfo.
