FLOW OF HYDROTHERMAL FLUIDS
Northeast and northwest trending natural fractures within the volcanic rocks from Yellowstone’s most recent caldera-forming eruption control the flow of hydrothermal fluids in Norris Geyser Basin. Hot springs and geysers develop along the fractures. The trends of the fractures are similar to trends of earthquakes and active faults in the area.
