Homestead, Florida: Have you ever imagined yourself exploring exotic places in search of the perfect story? Do you dream of travelling and changing the world through your writing? For over a century, the Everglades has been immortalized through the writings of people like Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Carl Hiaasen, Zora Neale Hurston and Michael Grunwald.
Join Everglades National Park in conjunction with North Carolina Outward Bound School on a trip of a lifetime to discover the largest wilderness area east of the Rocky Mountains. If you are a college student, age 18-25, and enrolled in a journalism, communications or creative writing program in South Florida then apply today!
Travel deep into the wilderness of the Everglades, paddle through a maze of mangrove tunnels, and sleep on a canoe platform island surrounded by water. Document your adventure, and hone your writing skills with Everglades poet, naturalist, writer and teacher, Anne McCrary Sullivan, and park ranger naturalist Sabrina Diaz. After your experience have your written work exhibited in a gallery and have your story published in the newspaper!
This program has been made possible through generous donation of the National Park Foundation, and The South Florida National Parks Trust, and through in kind support from North Carolina Outward Bound School, University of Miami, Florida International University, Florida Atlantic University, South Dade News Leader and Fairchild Tropical Gardens.
