Drawing, painting and mixed media by Redland Elementary School’s art students will be on display at the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center for the month of May, 2009.

Following a rigorous visual art curriculum based on Florida Standards, these young students from Redland Elementary explored elements of art and design to interpret flora and fauna of the landscape in artwork.  Using problem solving and critical thinking skills, they studied ways to conserve, preserve, clean up and advocate for Florida’s precious resource: The Everglades.

This show is the debut of the Redland Elementary Art Club exhibiting in a space outside of Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ on-going themed exhibitions.

These student works were inspired by first hand experience gained on a field trip to the Anhinga Trail and Long Pine Key this past April.  These young visual artists have been provided this opportunity to exhibit at the Ernest F. Coe Center through an “In the Green” Adapter Grant from the Education Fund.

An artist’s reception will be held on Saturday May 16, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.  This exhibit will be on display in the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center through the end of May 2009.

The Ernest Coe Visitor Center is located 11 miles southwest of Homestead on State Road 9336 and also features award-winning natural history displays, an 18-minute film, and related book sales.  Center hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily; admission is free.  For information and directions call (305) 242-7700.
