Special Program on Karen Glaser's Photography, Saturday January 17th

Everglades National Park is pleased to invite the community to join Karen Glaser, the current Artist in Residence at Everglades National Park, for a discussion on her imagery made in the springs of north and central Florida, her work in the swamps of Big Cypress and her current experience of being an artist in residence at the park on Saturday, January 17th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ernest Coe Visitor Center.

Karen is an experienced and well-known photographer who has spent her career working in and around water. She lives and teaches photography in Chicago and her work is exhibited in major museum collections across the country. Several of her large sale photographs will be on display during this program.

Karen was selected as an artist in residence at Everglades National Park through a special program funded by contributions to the National Park Service from individuals and private foundations. The artist in residence program (AIRIE) is competitive and offers artists selected the opportunity to live and work in the park's unique environment for a period of up to one month. A prominent panel of professional artists, curators, or educators, along with park personnel, review applications submitted from around the country annually. Selections are made on the basis of merit and how a candidate's work can advance the mission of Everglades National Park and the National Park Service as well as enhance the growth of the artist's work.

The works completed under this program contribute to the public understanding and appreciation of Everglades National Park. It is hoped that these works will characterize the Everglades for present and future generations, giving park visitors and the general public an opportunity to see our heritage through the eyes, and ears of the contributing artists.

The Ernest Coe Visitor Center can be accessed from the Homestead entrance to the park. Once you enter the park, drive ¼ mile into the park. You will see the visitor center on your right. For more information about this program and other programs please call 305-242-7700.
