Free Homestead Trolley Tours to Biscayne and Everglades National Parks for NASCAR Fans

HOMESTEAD, FLORIDA – NASCAR event fans may enjoy a special opportunity to ride on the Homestead National Parks Trolley on Thursday, November 13, 2014, to Biscayne and Everglades National Parks. The special trolley route provides round trip transportation from the Speedway’s RV parking lot. Trolleys depart to Biscayne National Park at 10:30 a.m., and 1:20 p.m., and to Everglades National Park at 9:00 a.m. and 1:54 p.m. Free guided tours are provided on the trolley where visitors may learn about the history and ecosystems of the parks and community, and free entrance is provided to both national parks.

“Thousands of families from around the United States come to the race every year,” said Homestead’s Vice Mayor Stephen Shelley. “I hope these families get a taste of something they normally wouldn’t get to see on race weekend and plan a return trip to Homestead and our neighboring national parks in the future.”

Park rangers, educational displays, small gift giveaways and appearances by the National Parks Conservation Association mascot, Teddy, are a part of the special activities at the Speedway. The trolley is the only available public transportation between Biscayne and Everglades National Parks and the Homestead-Miami Speedway.

The Homestead National Parks Trolley was launched in January of this year by the park’s gateway community, the City of Homestead. The innovative and wildly popular program brings thousands of visitors from historic downtown Homestead to the national parks.

To meet growing demand, two national parks trolleys will operate on weekends fromNovember 22, 2014 through April 26, 2015. The trolleys will transport visitors between Biscayne National Park, Everglades National Park, Homestead Bayfront Park and historic downtown Homestead. The trolley program is the result of efforts of the National Parks Conservation Association in collaboration with the National Park Service and the City of Homestead.
