Univision-23 will air a special reality program, ‘Aventura y Diversión En Los Everglades’ (Fun and Adventure in the Everglades), where the Tolón family, lifelong Miami residents who have never visited Everglades National Park, dare to spend a weekend camping in the park. A special screening of this program will be held on Wednesday, November 17 at 5:30 p.m. at the Miami Dade College’s West Campus and the show will air on Univision 23 on Saturday, November 20th at 11 am.

While the show presents the many adventures experienced by the family during their camping trip and the personal fears of alligators and wildlife they had to face, the show also focuses on educating viewers about the amazing resources that Everglades National Park preserves for the local community and America.

The Everglades is one of 398 parks in the United States National Park system, a unique conservation project and the only one of its kind in the world. Furthermore, of all these parks, the Everglades National Park is also one of a kind. It is the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States and boasts rare and endangered species. It has also been designated a World Heritage Site, International Biosphere Reserve, and Wetland of International Importance, significant to all people of the world.

‘Aventura y Diversión En Los Everglades’ presents this valuable information and much more to viewers, through the eyes of the Tolón family.

"We had a blast and you have both [park rangers] definitely left a lifelong mark in me in regards to wildlife awareness..... I have a new found respect for nature... Not that I hadn't before but it is different once you have an experience like ours. IT’S AMAZING!!!!!" said Helga M. Tolon

The show was created through a partnership between Univision 23 and the National Park Service with a clear focus on entertainment and education. It is part of a national initiative to promote the National Parks and motivate U.S. residents to visit and enjoy these national resources which as American citizens they own. Various shows, featuring parks such as Yosemite, Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, and the Gates of the Arctic in Alaska, have aired in other markets, but this is the first to air in Spanish for the Hispanic community of south Florida.

This program was made possible through support from the National Park Foundation and South Florida National Parks Trust. The Foundation grant was designed to connect with people who have had little or no experience in our national parks. Miami has a huge Spanish speaking population that is located between two major National Parks, Everglades and Biscayne. Yet many people are afraid or don't know how to visit the parks. Aventura y Diversión En Los Everglades" can show park neighbors how close they are to an amazing place, and how they can explore it easily in a fun and entertaining way.

"We are really excited about this opportunity to work with our partners on such a wonderful production that will reach new audiences for this wonderful American treasure," said Dan Kimball, Superintendent of Everglades National Park.

During the 24 minute show, the Tolón family members encounter large alligators during night hours, canoe through the waters of the Everglades, cycle on the trails and enjoy many other activities while park rangers guide them through the experience, as part of a program available to all families interested in living their own personal adventure in the Everglades.

The show also offers viewers the chance to test their knowledge of the Everglades National Park through a Q&A trivia and an on-line element, with photographs of the recording and more interesting behind-the-scenes information, can be viewed by visiting www.univision23.com.

During the special screening, guests and media will be able to meet the Tolón family, Everglades Park Rangers and the Univision production crew for the show. The event will be emceed by Emmy-Award Winning Univision reporter and producer Amanda Ramirez.
