Carmen Ferreiro, an avid naturalist and photographer grew up in South Dade and has been exploring the Everglades for over 20 years. In 2012, she became a volunteer at Everglades National Park, and since then she has been photographing the wildlife and natural areas of the park.

"The Everglades is a place teaming with life, from small and rare butterflies and snails, to larger endangered species like the Florida Panther," states Ferreiro. "Often hiking solo I am fortunate to see the Everglades come alive with the sounds of wildlife going about their daily lives. I marvel at the beauty of the simplicity yet artistry of their daily struggle to exist in the protected boundaries of the park."
