HOMESTEAD, Fla– The world famous Anhinga Trail, located at the Royal Palm Visitor Center in Everglades National Park, is now open for public use after undergoing a complete renovation. After months of work and several lengthy closures, the trail is now open 24 hours a day, offering visitors an opportunity to explore through the freshwater sawgrass marsh of the Everglades. The trail is well known for its abundance of wildlife. On any given day, one may encounter alligators, turtles, anhingas, herons, egrets, and many other bird species. Ranger Guided hikes around the Anhinga Trail are available daily, beginning at 10:30 am at the Royal Palm Visitor Center, and lasting approximately 50 minutes.

The public is also invited to a celebration on Thursday November 17 to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the establishment of Royal Palm State Park and the reopening of the Anhinga Trail. Royal Palm State Park was the first of the Florida State Parks, established in 1916, and later became the nucleus of the modern Everglades National Park in 1947.
