Mamie Remembers Gettysburg

On May 17, Eisenhower National Historic Site and the Gettysburg Foundation will host a day of 1950s culture featuring the dramatic program, Mamie Remembers Gettysburg , a 1950s Fashion Show, and a special High Tea. Gettysburg resident Ruthmary McIlhenny will present her original portrayal of the First Lady, Mamie Remembers Gettysburg . McIlhenny has been a volunteer at the Eisenhower Site since 1991. The 30-minute program will be at 10:45 a.m. and 2:15 p.m., is suitable for all ages and is included in the site admission.

The Victory Society will present fashion show entitled, Fashions of the Fifties , at 11:45 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. The narrated fashion show will feature styles for men, women and children in both casual clothes and formal attire. The Victory Society is a living history group that does both the World War II period and the 1950s.

As a special treat, the Eisenhower garage will be open so visitors can get a closer look at the Eisenhower's cars and his golf carts.

All visits to the Eisenhower National Historic Site are by shuttle bus from the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center, 1195 Baltimore Pike, Gettysburg. Shuttles depart every half-hour from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is $7.50 for adults, and $5.00 for children ages 6-12.
