NPS
PAVED ROADS
CLOSED:
Closures apply to all traffic. No foot, bicycle, motorcycle, vehicle, etc. use allowed.
Badwater Road: due to flood damage. No access to any point of interest along the road, including Golden Canyon, Artists Drive, Devils Golfcourse and Badwater Basin. Junction with CA-190 to milepost 17 is the park's highest priority to open; might open around mid-October. The southern section (Badwater to Jubilee Pass) is likely to be closed through December.
North Highway: closed due to storm debris since 8/26/2025. North Highway is gated at the southern intersection with Mud Canyon and just south of the Grapevine Ranger Station. It is not possible to exit this way if vehicles enter from Big Pine or Racetrack Roads. No estimated reopening date. Park staff will work on North Highway after Badwater MP 0-17 opens.
Bonnie Clare Road and Scotty’s Castle: due to flood recovery work. No access permitted. The reopening date is unknown at this time; it is dependent upon completion of projects, not sooner than 2027.
CAUTION:
Rocks and mud may be present on roads due to recent flooding.
UNPAVED/BACKCOUNTRY ROADS
CLOSED:
Note that road closures listed below apply to ALL motorized vehicles, including motorcycles. The roads were completely washed out in places and entry will cause tire tracks and braided roads in wilderness as users try to locate what was once the road. Thank you for your patience as we work to reopen these locations. Bicycles are permitted except on Titus Canyon Road and Salt Creek Road.
Only major roads are listed for reference below:
Twenty Mule Team Canyon: due to flood damage 9/19/25. No estimated reopening date.
Cottonwood/Marble:final 2.8 miles due to water running on the road. No estimated reopening date.
Westside Road: due to flood damage 9/19/25, No estimated reopening date.
Lower Wildrose Road (aka Trona - Wildrose Road, connects Wildrose to Panamint Valley): completely impassable due to a 9-foot deep cut across the road. Likely to remain closed until Summer 2026.
Darwin Falls: Road is completely gone in many places and will need either extensive import of road fill (expensive) or "mining" of gravel from the nearby wash (this would require thorough environmental review). Likely to remain closed until Summer 2026. Hikers can park on the shoulder of CA-190 and walk in.
Salt Creek: Flooding destroyed the boardwalk, restroom and parking area. Currently under construction. Closed to all access including pedestrians. Will not open before October 2025.
Titus Canyon Road: Due to flood damage. Bicycle use is prohibited in Titus Canyon for safety reasons. Impassable. Not likely to open before fall of2026. Lower Titus Canyon to the Fall Canyon Trailhead is temporarily closed due to North Highway closure.
