Paved Roads

CLOSED:

  • Bonnie Clare Road and Scotty’s Castle: due to flood recovery work. No access permitted, including pedestrians. The reopening date is unknown at this time; it is dependent upon completion of projects.

CAUTION:

  • North Highway: watch for debris on road due to flooding 11/1/2026

Unpaved Roads

CLOSED:

Note that road closures listed below apply to ALL motorized vehicles, including motorcycles. The roads were completely washed out in places and entry will cause tire tracks and braided roads in wilderness as users try to locate what was once the road. Thank you for your patience as we work to reopen these locations. Bicycles are permitted, except when noted below.

Only major roads are listed for reference below:

  • Cottonwood/Marble Roads: due to flooding 11/1/2026

  • Darwin Falls: Road is completely gone in many places and will need either extensive import of road fill (expensive) or "mining" of gravel from the nearby wash (this would require thorough environmental review). Likely to remain closed until Summer 2027. Hikers can park on the shoulder of CA-190 and walk in.

  • Hunter Mountain Road: Due to extremely muddy conditions which have lead to multiple stuck vehicles.

  • Titus Canyon Road: closed for repairs from flood damage. The anticipated reopening is May 2027. No cyclists or hikers.

CAUTION:

  • Lower Wildrose Road (aka Trona - Wildrose Road, connects Wildrose to Panamint Valley). No vehicles longer than 25ft. Road is washed out and is covered in debris in many places due to a storm on 10/22/26. Low clearance vehicles and vehicles with street tires are not recommended.

  • Harry Wade Road: Deep sand approx 6 miles south of the junction with Badwater Road.

  • Phinney Canyon Road: Final 3 miles is significantly washed out and is impassable to all vehicles.
