Contact: Nancy Stimson, 307.437.5283 In September 2014, National Park Service units with fee collection programs were authorized to begin the civic engagement process associated with increasing entrance fees. Devils Tower National Monument is announcing a proposal to increase entrance fees, and the fee for campsites at the Belle Fourche River Campground. Eighty percent of fees collected stay in the monument for critical visitor related projects and services. The other twenty percent are distributed to other national parks that do not collect fees. Devils Tower current entrance fees have been in place since 2008. If approved, the proposed entrance fees would become effective January 1, 2017.
Prices will remain unchanged for the America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational ($80) and Senior ($10) passes. Military and Access passes will remain free. These passes may be obtained at the monument entrance.
The monument also proposes to increase the site fee at the Belle Fourche River Campground from $12 to $20/night (1-8 people), and charge a flat rate of $30/night for group sites (9 to 20 people).
"We understand that no one likes fee increases, but this fee revenue is critical in funding visitor services, resource protection, public safety, projects and facility improvement. We ask for the public's support in taking this step in preserving a quality visitor experience at Devils Tower," said Superintendent Tim Reid. "Devils Tower National Monument is a strong economic engine for the surrounding area. In 2015, more than 478,830 park visitors contributed $29,889,500 in communities near the park and supported 477 jobs related to tourism". A public meeting will be held July 20, 6-8 pm at the Hulett Town Hall: 401 Sager Street, Hulett, WY 82720. A second public meeting will be held July 21, 6-8 pm at the Crook County Courthouse Community Room (Basement Meeting Room) in Sundance, WY. Comments on the proposed fee increases can be submitted online at PEPC, in person, or by mail at Devils Tower National Monument, PO Box 10, Devils Tower, WY 82712. Comments must be received or postmarked by midnight August 4, 2016 and may be made available to the public at any time. Comments will not be accepted by phone, fax, or e-mail.
