Denali Park Road Opens to Mountain Vista on February 24, 2022

Effective immediately, Denali is opening the Denali Park Road (the Park Road) to the Mountain Vista Rest Area (mile marker 12). Due to projected weather forecasts the Park Road from Headquarters to Mountain Vista may be closed intermittently due to accumulating snow. 

The public will have access to all trails and open spaces along the Park Road, up to the Mountain Vista Rest Area. The Riley Creek Day Use Area will only be plowed one third of the way to the restroom but the Bear Loop of Riley Campground is open. Park staff will also open and maintain restroom facilities for public use. 

In accordance with CDC guidance, campgrounds and most visitor facilities remain closed, however the Indoor Picnic Area will be open. The kennels are currently open Saturdays and Sundays only, from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.  

Park staff will be out and visible, but visitors are encouraged to check the weather before leaving and to come fully prepared for changes to access on short notice. The public is also advised to give moose lots of space as the deep snow has left the animals stressed and with a short tempter. The large amounts of snow could increase back country hazards.
