Gunnison, CO:  September will bring change to recreational boating on Blue Mesa Reservoir.  A few reminders:

Starting Tuesday, September 5, the Ponderosa and Stevens Creek inspection stations and ramps are closed for the season.

From Tuesday, September 5 through Saturday, September 30, the Elk Creek, Lake Fork, and Iola inspection stations and ramps will be open from 6:30 am to 7 pm.

Boaters are reminded that it is their responsibility to be off the lake before the ramps close for the day. Ramps are locked outside of inspection hours.

Many boats will exit Lake Fork and Elk Creek in September based on marina slip closures. Boaters should plan for possible delays due to inspection and decontamination stations being busy with multiple vessels.

In addition, boaters should be aware that the lake is starting to go down from full pool; please be extra vigilant when on the water.  Watch out for debris, for trees just under the water, be familiar with the lake and shallow/beach areas and bridges.  When going under any of the three bridges on Blue Mesa, please come off plane, slow down to idle and make the safest approach possible.  The ends of the bridges have more room than the middle.  Going under at idle speed is the best approach.
