Superintendent Dan Buckley has announced the availability of an environmental assessment (EA) of proposed improvements to the Lava Flow Campground. The EA analyzes alternatives and issues derived from comments received last year. The project is intended to improve accessibility and enhance visitor experience and resource protection.

The proposed project would widen the campground road system to a consistent width, pave parking sites at each camp site to prevent erosion, provide safer pedestrian access and combine some sites to create additional pull through sites. The total number of camp sites would decrease from 51 to 43.

"We want to make sure we have considered all potential adverse impacts in the environmental impact analysis," said Superintendent Buckley.

The EA can be viewed or downloaded at https://parkplanning.nps.gov/LavaFlowCampground . Those wishing to provide comments should submit them in writing as soon as possible, but no later than August 20, 2012 to: P.O. Box 29, Arco, Idaho 83213, via email at e-mail us or via the internet at https://parkplanning.nps.gov/crmo. Questions about the proposed project or requests for printed copies can be directed to Chief of Resource Management, John Apel at (208) 527-1350.

Remember that unless requested otherwise, a list of all those that comment during public review periods, including their addresses, is available upon request.
