Contact: Dan Buckley, Superintendent, 208-527-1310 Visitors to Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve contributed more than $6 million to local economies and supported81 jobs in 2011 according to a recent report issued by the National Park Service. In 2011, Craters of the Moon hosted 198,545 visitors. "Over the years, Craters of the Moon has averaged about 200,000 visitors per year, and these visitors are important to the economies of our gateway communities, especially Carey to our west and Arco to our east," said Park Superintendent Dan Buckley. Statewide visitors to Idaho's 6 national park units contributed $24 million to local economies and supported 379 jobs. Nationally visitors to all 398 units of the National Park System contributed more than $30 billion to local economies and supported 252,000 jobs.
