June is a great time to visit the park! Temperatures and visitation are comparatively low and wildflowers are at their peak. We also begin our full schedule of ranger guided activities this month and June 21 is a fee free day at all national parks.

thru Sept. 30, Ranger Guided Walks and Talks:
Climb a volcano, explore a lava tube cave or join us for an evening presentation or Junior Ranger activity in the campground. Look for a detailed schedule of these daily events at: https://www.nps.gov/crmo/planyourvisit/events.htm

June 3-4, Star Party: Starts at sundown on Friday and Saturday evenings
Join experts from the Idaho Falls Astronomical Society to experience the universe under our naturally dark skies. Telescopes for viewing will be located in the Caves Area parking lot.

June 4, Wilderness Hike: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., 8 miles
Explore the first Wilderness area in the National Park System with a ranger guided hike to Echo Crater. Reservations are required and the hike will be limited to 30 people. Call 208-527-1335 to make a reservation.

June 11-13, Teacher’s Workshop: Bring the Field into the Classroom through Nature Photography
Bring the field back into the classroom through better photography. This workshop will teach participants how to maximize the quality of the photographs from their digital cameras through classroom instruction and practice in the field. College credit is available. Contact the park Education Specialist at 208-527-1331 for more information.

June 11 & 18, Wildflower Walks: 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m., 2 miles
Witness the annual eruption of spring blooms on a ranger guided hike. June is the peak of the wildflower season at Craters of the Moon. Meet at the Tree Molds Parking Lot. Reservations are required and walks will be limited to 30 people. Call 208- 527-1335 to make a reservation.

June 21, Fee Free Day:
To celebrate the first day of summer, the National Park Service is waiving entrance fees at all parks, including Craters of the Moon, on June 21. Visit one of these special places.

June 25, Bicycle Tour: 8 a.m.-11 a.m., 7 miles
Bicycles on the Moon? Take a carbon-free tour of Craters of the Moon led by a bicycling Ranger. Bring a bike and a helmet. Meet at the Visitor Center. Reservations are required and ride will be limited to 15 people. Call 208- 527-1335 to make a reservation.
