Superintendent Doug Neighbor has announced the availability of an environmental assessment (EA) of proposed improvements to the North Crater Flow Trail. The EA analyzes alternatives and issues derived from comments received earlier this year. The project is intended to improve accessibility and enhance visitor experience and resource protection. The proposal for the North Crater Flow Trail would improve accessibility for all trail users, but especially those with disabilities. Trail accessibility improvements include constructing a paved surface along the existing trail alignment along with widening the surface to three feet and reducing grades to comply with standards for accessibility. New interpretive waysides would also better explain volcanic features along the trail and in the monument. "We want to make sure we have considered all potential adverse impacts in the environmental impact analysis," said Superintendent Neighbor. The EA can be viewed or downloaded at https://parkplanning.nps.gov/crmo Those wishing to provide comments should submit them in writing as soon as possible, but no later than July 10, 2011 to: P.O. Box 29, Arco, Idaho 83213, or e-mail us Remember that unless requested otherwise, a list of all those that comment during public review periods, including their addresses, is available upon request. |
