For Kids

There are a number of activities for kids within the Cane River National Heritage Area.

Cane River Creole National Historical Park
Kids learn about agriculture, architecture, Civil War, Civil Rights, and the Creole culture through the park's Junior Ranger Program. Free admission. School groups are welcome with advanced reservations; please call 318-352-0383, x 316.

Fort St. Jean Baptiste
Experience a bit of colonial history and see what Louisiana was like in the 1700s. Groups welcome; call 318-357-3101.

Natchitoches National Fish Hatchery
Visit the Aquarium and tour Louisiana's only federal fish hatchery. See alligator gar, alligator snapping turtles, recreational fish species, and freshwater mussels up close and personal. School groups welcome; call 318-352-5324.

Natchitoches Parish Library
Library in downtown Natchitoches with frequent children's events. Free admission. Groups welcome; call 318-357-3280.
