Fort Oglethorpe, GA: On Sunday, May 11, at 2 pm, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will provide a special 1-hour presentation about the issues that plagued the Confederate Army of Tennessee. This talk begins inside the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center before moving to a location on the battlefield.
The Army of Tennessee seemed doomed to fail. It repeatedly snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Over the years, historians simply blamed the army’s failures on its long time commander, Braxton Bragg. Yet, the problems predated General Bragg and lasted until the war’s close. So, if not Bragg, then who was to blame? What was wrong with the Army of Tennessee? We will explore these questions and others as we discuss what was wrong with the Army of Tennessee.
Visitors may wish to bring a bottle of water and a folding chair since we will be in one location for the program.
