Fort Oglethorpe, GA: On Saturday, August 17, at 11 am, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will conduct a 45-minute talk about the stories of several heroic men and their unsung deeds of valor during the Battle of Chickamauga. The program will begin at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center, then it will caravan to the program site. Please dress for heat conditions, and it is advisable to bring a folding chair and a bottle of water.
During the Battle of Chickamauga, several soldiers met the criteria needed to earn the Medal of Honor, yet they never received the medal. In our culture, we hold individuals whose actions went “above and beyond the call of duty” in high reverence. It is interesting that these soldiers’ actions were seemingly forgotten. We hope you will be able to join us for this special program.
