The Three Sisters: Their Legacy in Native Culture - Part II

Fort Oglethorpe, GA:  On Saturday, August 14, at 2 pm, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites you to participate in a special one-hour ranger-led program exploring the unique horticulture practice of the Three Sisters and the food it provided. This program will take place at the Moccasin Bend National Archeological District located at approximately 200 Moccasin Bend Rd, Chattanooga, TN 37405. Special program signs will direct visitors to the program site, where participants can set up lawn chairs underneath a tin-roof shed for shelter and shade.  

In Part II of our discussion on the Three Sisters form of agriculture, we will be discussing the various ways each produce would have been harvested, stored, and cooked. Corn, beans, and squash were a staple of many American Indian tribes. We hope you will join us as we learn just how these vegetables  were used to produce the sustenance that so many native cultures relied on throughout the centuries and how you too can cook some traditional recipes.
