Fort Oglethorpe, GA: On Friday, September 29, at 2 pm, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will host a special program highlighting work currently being done at the Chickamauga Battlefield on the 15th US Infantry’s regimental monument, located at Tour Stop 2, on Battleline Road. Staff from Northern Stone Carving, who is conducting the restoration work, will be on hand as well.

The 15th US Infantry Regiment was part of Brigadier General John H. King’s Regular Brigade in the Union Army of the Cumberland during the Battle of Chickamauga. They witnessed some of the heaviest fighting of the battle. Some of the first monuments placed on the battlefield were those to the regiments of the Regular Brigade, starting in 1893. The 15th US Infantry is still an active unit of the United States Army, having served the country in all wars since the Civil War. Come learn the history of this proud unit of the United States Army and see the process of restoration to one of the oldest monuments on the battlefield.
