Fort Oglethorpe, GA: Point Park, atop Lookout Mountain and part of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, is waiving the entrance fee on Monday, January 16, to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

This would be a great opportunity to visit and contemplate the reasons soldiers struggled along the mountain slopes during the “Battle Above the Clouds” in 1863 and why 100 years later, in 1963, Dr. King reminded us to “let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee.”

All national parks will waive entrance fees for everyone on this day as the first fee free day of the year. It is also a day of service when thousands of volunteers participate in service projects across the country, including at national parks.

Find volunteer opportunities inspired by this day of service or visit a park to learn more about the history of Dr. King and the pursuit of civil rights in America. Questions about MLK Day of Service activities at Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park can be directed to the park’s volunteer coordinator, Will Wilson, at will_wilson@nps.gov or 706-866-9241 ext. 137.
