Fort Oglethorpe, GA: On Thursday, July 4, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will conduct artillery programs inside Point Park, on Lookout Mountain. Demonstrations, each lasting approximately 30 minutes, are scheduled at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm, 2:30 pm, and 3:30 pm. Admission to Point Park is $7 per adult, ages 16 and over, youth, ages 15 and under, are free.
In the Battle of Chickamauga’s aftermath, the crack of gunfire and roar of artillery echoed from the heights of Lookout Mountain as Tennessean clashed against Tennessean. As Confederate forces moved to capture the strategic heights of Lookout, Colonel James G. Spears’ Brigade of Tennessee Unionists, men who opposed secession and were labeled traitors and “homegrown Yankees” by Confederates, were set to oppose their advance. To learn more about their story, we invite you to participate in these special programs.
