Preparing for Battle: The Confederate Occupation of Lookout Mountain

Fort Oglethorpe, GA: On Saturday, September 2, and on Sunday, September 3, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will host a living history encampment with the 16^th Alabama at Point Park on Lookout Mountain. Programs, which last approximately 30 minutes, are scheduled at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm, 2:30 pm, and 3:30 pm on Saturday, and at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm, and 2:30 pm on Sunday. Admission to Point Park is $5 per adult, ages 16 and older. Youth, ages 15 and younger, are free.

In October 1863, Confederates encamped around Chattanooga as they besieged the city. In addition to constantly being under fire and being wet from the incessant rains, soldiers’ days were often filled with boredom. So, how did they fill their time? At Point Park, this Labor Day weekend, visitors can have this and other questions answered as they experience the daily life of soldiers during the siege of Chattanooga.
