Fort Oglethorpe, GA: On Saturday, May 18, at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm, 2:30 pm, and 3:30 pm, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will present artillery firing demonstrations at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center.

The Battle of Chickamauga was something out of a nightmare for the soldiers who experienced it in 1863. The entangled forest made it almost impossible to see, to hear orders, and in the case of the artillery, to perform its duty. Cannon were weapons of mass destruction, intended to deliver death and devastation over long distances, which was impossible at Chickamauga in all but a few instances.  Participants will hear stories associated with brave artillerymen and what they did during the battle 161 years ago.
