Meet Authors David Powell, Perry Short, and Robert Carter at Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park

Chickamauga Battlefield; Fort Oglethorpe, GA: As we commence the 160th anniversary commemorating the Battle of Chickamauga, America’s National Parks, in partnership with the National Park Service, would like to invite you to meet authors David Powell, Perry Short, and Robert Carter inside the visitor center beginning September 16, 2023.

David Powell: Sept 16, 17, 19; 10:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.; Sept 20; 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. 
The Maps of Chickamauga; Decisions at Chickamauga; Failure in the Saddle; The Chickamauga Campaign (Trilogy); Impulse of Victory: Grant at Chattanooga; and more
David Powell is a 1983 graduate of the Virginia Military Institute with a B.A. in History. He resides in Chicago and regularly leads tours through Chickamauga Battlefield. Powell’s extensive research has paved the way for anyone interested in gaining knowledge about the battles of Chickamauga and Chattanooga. Whether you are interested in a deep dive or to know the “whys” behind the decisions that were made, Powell’s titles are sure to provide that information.

Perry Short: Sept 21, 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. 
Generation of Warriors
Perry Short is a resident of Bartlett, TN, near Memphis, and attended the University of Memphis. Passionate about Civil War history, Short is involved with re-enactments and played roles in the Civil War movies Glory, Gettysburg, Gods & Generals, and the North and South II.  Generation of Warriors, a historical novel, surrounds the story of 5 actual men, primarily, Spillsby Dyer, a local resident during the Civil War.

Robert Carter: Sept 23. 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
The Fight for Snodgrass Hill and the Rock of Chickamauga; and Longstreet’s Breakthrough at Chickamauga
Robert Carter received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Education degrees from Jacksonville State University. Carter, now retired, was an educator for over 40 years and resides in Georgia. He volunteers at Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park where he shares his knowledge and love of history. His books focus on two of the primary areas of interest during the battle of Chickamauga - Snodgrass Hill and Longstreet’s Breakthrough.
