César E. Chávez National Monument Celebrates 10th Anniversary

KEENE, California – César E. Chávez National Monument will celebrate its 10th anniversary as a unit of the National Park System with a commemorative ceremony on Saturday, October 8 at 10am (PDT). The event will be held in the monument’s Memorial Garden located at 29700 Woodford-Tehachapi Road in Keene, California.

The event is being held in partnership with the César Chávez Foundation, National Chávez Center, and National Park Foundation, and is free to the public. The event will feature speakers such as Paul Chávez, president of the César Chávez Foundation; Frank Lands, regional director of the National Park Service; and Anne Stephan, superintendent of César E. Chávez National Monument. Visitors will also have an opportunity to experience new exhibits in the visitor center, get a special National Parks Passport commemorative cancellation stamp, and visit the newly restored exterior of the Chávez Residence.

The monument is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily year-round, except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Days. You can also check our website at www.nps.gov/cech for up-to-date information.

César E. Chávez National Monument was established on October 8, 2012 by President Barack Obama through Presidential Proclamation under the Antiquities Act of 1906 to honor the life and work of César Chávez, particularly in his role as a 20th Century Latino civil rights leader and his passionate dedication to the American farm worker movement.
